Dubai-Sharjah road to be closed for 3 weeks – Khaleej Times

The closure begins on August 16. A service road connecting Ajman to Dubai via Sharjah will be closed again for three weeks. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development announced on Thursday the closure of the service road under the Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped bridge, for motorists driving from Ajman to Dubai on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in Sharjah. The temporary road closure – beginning Friday (August 16, 2019) – will last for three weeks. Timings are as follows: Friday: 2:00am – 11:00am Weekdays: 1:00am – 5:30am Motorists are advised to comply with traffic rules and use alternative routes. This year, the largest cohort of A-level students come from Gems Education across 13 of its schools offering the United Kingdom curriculum. Of the 600 students who appeared for the examinations at Gems’ schools, nearly 33 per cent achieved A* or A grade. Of these, Jumeirah College (JC) merits a special mention. Of the 140 students taking A Levels in the school, 30 achieved all A* or A grades. Simon O’Connor, principal of JC, said: “The students have done wonderfully — far exceeding expectations. Clerk embezzles Dh70,000 VAT refund in Dubai – News – Khaleej Times

The expat has been jailed for six months. A clerk, who embezzled Dh69,311 while working at a tax refunding company, has been jailed for six months by the Dubai Court of First Instance. According to public prosecution records, the 34-year-old Filipino clerk was an employee at a company at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport when he committed financial irregularities. He was given access to the company’s e-system and was authorised with refunding the travellers who claim the VAT back. He tampered with electronic data and stole the money on different occasions. He would save the claimants’ personal details in the system and falsely state in the company’s records that the refunding was by cash. But he would deposit later into credit cards that did not belong to the claimants. He denied earlier charges of embezzlement and e-forgery in court. He will be deported after completing his time in jail. The wrongdoings happened between January 21 and March 31. The general manager

Bars and restaurants across the city will be dry ahead of Islamic New Year There is set to be another dry night in Dubai, and it will fall on Saturday August 31. Dubai will be dry for the night from 6.30pm Saturday August 31 until 7.30pm on Sunday September 1, ahead of the Islamic New Year, which looks likely to fall on Sunday September 1. This means that bars and restaurants across Dubai will not be serving anything other than soft drinks. It also looks likely that Sunday September 1 is also going to be a public holiday in honour of Islamic New Year, also known as Hijri New Year. Once confirmed workers in the private and the public sectors will be set for a three-day weekend.
